Member: Pamela Greinke, Newaygo, MI
Project Title: Soap Sacks for Shelters

Pamela and friends made 120 soap sacks, a crocheted sack with a bar of soap inside, for an organization that serves the homeless and low-income individuals in a three-county area. The soap sacks are made with cotton yarn and serve as a washcloth as well as a way to store and carry a bar of soap.

Member: Kathleen Etheridge, Lynn Center, IL
Project Title: Bed Mats

Kathleen used her Difference Maker Fund to purchase hardware for a loom to make bed mats from plastic bags—a great way to repurpose those plastic bags from grocery and other stores. The mats were handed out to more than 20 people facing homelessness.

Member: John Hyatt, Burnsville, NC
Project Title: Helping Hands

John used his Difference Maker Fund as seed money to purchase items to make 302 care packages. The packages included toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, combs, and wash cloths. These packages were handed out at traffic lights.

Member: Gertrude Lassiter, Akron, OH
Project Title: Putting a Smile on People’s Faces

Realizing that all people deserve to smile, Gertrude makes handmade cards for homeless shelters. She used her Difference Maker Fund to purchase supplies to craft cards throughout the year.

Member: Allice Hood, Coweta, OK
Project Title: Make an Impact Day

Allice partnered with resource center volunteers to prepare 75 brown bags containing a homemade sandwich, chips, cookies, fruit, and water. Volunteers distributed the bags to homeless individuals and families.

Member: Kathy Haluska, Brownsville, PA
Project Title: City Mission 5K Walk/Run for the Homeless

Kathy amplified her Difference Maker Fund impact by using the grant to purchase water and Gatorade for City Mission’s annual 5K. This walk/run raises funds to provide housing for the homeless in her community.
