Winter Warmth

Project Title: Hats and Mittens for Migrant Children

Amanda recognized that migrant children in her community might not have adequate winter clothing. She applied for the Difference Maker Fund to purchase hates, gloves, and socks for migrant children in Buffalo County, Nebraska.

Member: Helen Traynor, River Falls, WI
Project Title: Winter Personal Care Kits

Our Neighbors Place in River Falls, Wisconsin, provides information and a referral program for those in need. Helen used her Difference Maker Fund to fill personal winter care bags that Our Neighbors Place could distribute. The kits included tissues, toothbrushes and paste, lip balm, hand sanitizer, granola bars, and hand warmers.

Project Title: Making Hats and Scarves for Kids

Nancy purchased yarn and, with the help of her sister, daughter, and grandson, knit 140 hats for her Difference Maker Fund. She gave the hats to her local school district. The school district was happy to receive the hats, which they handed out with gloves, boots, and hats.

Project Title: Warm Feet, Warm Hearts

The Friends of Wanskuck Community Library in Providence, Rhode Island, held a Warm Feet, Warm Hearts winter drive. Library patrons donated warm socks for adults and children. With her Difference Maker Funds, Patricia purchased socks and gloves. The items were donated to the DaVinci Center for Community Progress and Sojourner House, an organization that works with those impacted by domestic violence.

Project Title: Warmth for the Homeless

Peggy purchased 15 sleeping bags from various sellers on Marketplace and donated them to the City of Lights Foundation, an organization that provides services for those facing homelessness.

Project Title: Advocating for Area Seniors

A volunteer at CASI, Center for Active Seniors, Vicky spent her Difference Maker funds on basic winter gear and food staples for low-income seniors who were in critical need of assistance.
