Monica Zinke, Executive Director of Fresh Start Home, has an unwavering dedication to making the Lincoln, Nebraska, community stronger by helping those at a disadvantage or in the most need. Fresh Start empowers homeless women to attain self-sufficiency by giving them a safe, structured and alcohol and drug-free environment along with supportive services. Proceeds from The Daisy Thrift Store, operated by volunteers, supports the Home. With the $10,000 grant, residents will benefit from the growth of the store and staff and equipment resources.
The importance of getting clothing from The Daisy goes beyond just the financial benefit. Monica shared how one resident said she “came in with nothing but the clothes on her back and desperation.” Afterwards she felt beautiful and valuable. The women are touched that people care enough to donate nice things for them. Fresh Start and The Daisy will now further empower more women to live healthier lives as mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and community neighbors.
Nation of Neighbors℠, Royal Neighbors’ signature program to empower women, provides financial assistance to individuals who have a plan to start or expand a business, an organization or group that helps women and girls. Nearly $2 million has been awarded since 2007.
